From Atlanta to the Big Apple!

So I just got back on Sunday from a week in New York with UGA's Furnishings & Interiors students. We spent the week traveling around the city to various design studios, architectural and design firms, showrooms, furniture makers, head hunters, and all! On our free days we visited some savvy design spots like the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, where some of New York's top designers come together to create a masterpiece too good for words. I was seriously amazed! I wanted so so badly to take pictures of every room, but at least I was able to come back with some sources and some fresh ideas!

We also visited ABC Carpet and Home, a 5 story showroom in the Flat Iron District full of amazing furnishings and accessories. We got to spend an hour at ABC in between appointments. Unfortunately, that was only enough time for me to make it to two floors! Oh well! Looks like I'll be going back!

Here at ABC we were able to catch a glimpse of some of the brilliant and bright designs of Terence Conran. It was so nice to finally see where all of those history of furnishings and interiors classes were applicable to daily design life! I saw all sorts of Eames and Saarinen classics as well as new ideas that flowed seamlessly amongst these timeless designs. The bold use of color and the clean simple lines were so refreshing and so fun for summer! Take a look at the pictures below or check out the website! http://www.conranusa.com

30 Hours Down!

One 30-hour week down! Look at these drawings I cranked out! Psych! I could only wish! These are just a few drawings pinned up on my desk in front of me drawn my Linda MacArthur. Like a said before, she's the real deal. Maybe one day I can knock out a drawing or two like this? Hah! We'll see!

I had a great first week at work as I jumped right into a project on Monday that I continued to work on throughout the week. I did some AutoCAD work, visited a few granite showrooms and warehouses, went on a quick site visit and corrected some redlined drawings. I feel like I'm just getting my feet wet at this point and I am so excited to see what the rest of the summer will be like!  I'm in a very small office and it's been super cozy with 3 people in a 10 x 10 office! I've learned alot just by listening to the architect and designers talk to one another, to contractors, and to clients. The small environment really fosters discussion, questions, and bouncing ideas off of one another which I'm really gaining alot from. I took some pictures throughout the week that I will work on posting as soon as possible. I've been super busy with work, graduation, international house guests, and getting ready for my New York study tour next week, so I may have to play a little catch up later on! Just hang tight!

Introducing... Studio Entourage!

I'm so excited to let you know about the internship opportunity that I have this summer! Just a few months ago I secured my spot as a part of the Studio Entourage design team. Studio Entourage is a small residential design firm headed by Linda MacArthur, a prominent Atlanta architect, and Jane Hollman, a well known millwork and space designer. The two work both individually and together with Studio Entourage, depending on the situation. I am so thrilled about the opportunity to work with both of these women--they're legit.

Studio Entourage specializes in new construction, renovations, custom millwork designs--you name it, they (or is it "we"?) can do it! The firm was recently spotted on the cover of Traditional Home magazine, bringing them lots of additional publicity and new clients! I can't wait to see what's in store for me this summer. Jane mentioned that they'll probably crank out 6-8 kitchens this summer! Wahoodie!

Feel free to check out the website at www.thestudioentourage.com
Stay tuned!
